D&D 5E releases variant rules for you to playtest: Alignment, Vitality and more

If you’d like to mix up your Dungeons & Dragons 5E in the way that Pathfinder Unchained mixes up its regular games, then you might want to mosey along to the latest Unearthed Arcana column from Wizards.

Included in this month’s WIP-rules-testing release are variant rules for:

  • Players doing all the rolling: Allowing the players to roll everything themselves and focusing on the the storyline
  • Vitality rules: A way to allow players to take more realistic, gradual damage
  • Removing alignments: How to play D&D without the beloved, iconic, but sometimes restrictive Alignment Grid
